Principal Investigator: Ruixuan Li
This project is supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) under grant 60873225.
This study plans to optimize the security and utility in multi-domains. It will investigate the security characteristics in multi-domains, describe and measure the utility and security, constitute the decision-making variables for security elements, and establish the multi-objective functions related to utility and security. It also will investigate how to represent the restrictions that affect the concrete interoperations by using the security elements related to the system utility and risk. Then it will analyze and evaluate the influence of concrete operation requirements to the system utility and risk. Based on the evaluation result, the dynamic access control model will be established to dynamically adjust the subjects鈥 access control permissions according to the system utility and the real-time risk degree.

l Jan, 2008 - Dec, 2008 Percolation-Based Topology Control and Search in Peer-to-Peer Network.
Principal Investigator: Ruixuan Li
This project is supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) under grant 60773191.
In this project, we try to use percolation theory of complex network and mathematical statistics methodology to study P2P network topology control and resource search. The targets of this project include: 1) to probe the P2P dynamic topology management based on percolation theory; 2) to study the relationship between the peers鈥 connection distribution and the service performance of the P2P network; 3) to design corresponding resource percolation search algorithms based on percolation P2P network structure to achieve efficient resource search in P2P network. We anticipate that using methods proposed in this project to construct P2P network can meet the demand of availability, scalability, maintainability which are required in the huge P2P resource sharing systems.
l Jan, 2005 - Dec, 2007 Risk Evaluation Model for Information Exchange Based on Multiple Autonomous Domains.
Principal Investigator: Ruixuan Li
This project is supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) under grant 60403027.
This project will study and present a secure interoperation model in distributed and heterogeneous multiple autonomous domains, which is suitable for multiple computational modes. The super security policies for interoperability among multi-domains will be explored to mediate the disagreements of different security policies in different computing environment. The project will also try to establish a distributed inter-domain security model to solve the collaboration problem of multiple secure agents in distributed autonomous domains. Since the process of information sharing and interoperation will evolve continuously, no policies can ensure the complete security of data resources while interoperating on them. We attempt to introduce the risk process theories of economics into secure interoperation management in multiple autonomous domains, and build a risk evaluation model for information exchange in multi-domain system.

Distributed and Heterogeneous Information Secure Exchange System.
Principal Investigator: Zhengding Lu, Ruixuan Li
This project is supported by National Key Tech R&D Program under grant 2002BA103A04.
Most of the researches in distributed and heterogeneous environment focus on information integration and data interoperation and ignore the information security. This research is working on information security management system that supports data sharing and integrating among multiple pre-existing data sources and enhances information security via mediating various security policies.

Panorama
2003: A Multidatabase Prototype System Based on XML.
Principal Investigator: Zhengding Lu, Ruixuan Li
This project was supported by North China Institute of Computing Technology.
Multidatabase is a system that supports data sharing and interoperation among multiple, pre-existing data sources. It's a high available approach for information integration and data interoperation, especially in the world wide web environment. The recent emergence of XML has shown great attractability as a new standard for data representation and exchange on the web. As a continuous project extending Panorama 2000, Panorama 2003 uses a XML-based Integration Data Model (XIDM) as its common data model, integrates various data sources including OODBs, RDBs and XML/HTML file systems, and supports XML-based query language.

2000 Panorama 2000: A Multidatabase Prototype System.
Principal Investigator: Zhengding Lu, Ruixuan Li
It was a cooperating project between North China Institute of Computing Technology and HUST. A multidatabase system is a layer of software that integrates a collection of pre-existing, heterogeneous, distributed database systems called local database systems. Panorama system was based on CORBA and integrated Oracle, Sybase, DB2 and DM2 (a database system developed in HUST). In Panorama, users could simultaneously access these distributed, heterogeneous and autonomous databases using global integrated schemas and a single global query language, named PanoSQL.

Web-based Integrated Information System.
Principal Investigator: Zhengding Lu
This project is supported by Hubei Post and Telecommunication Management Office. It鈥檚 a typical integrated information system based on Internet/Intranet. Different data in different databases of multiple regional post and telecommunication branches in Hubei Province should be gathered and integrated. Then analysis and decisions should also be done based on the integrated information system. Some information might be sent by the department manager or office head, while some others could be queried by the ordinary users on the Internet. The integrated information system was based on Oracle System on Sun Solaris.

Schema Integration and Transaction Processing in Heterogeneous and Distributed Multidatabase Systems.
Principal Investigator: Zhengding Lu
This project, which supported by National XX Pre-research Fund under grant 94J3路4路2路JW0515, mainly deals with the transaction processing in multi-database systems, including concurrency control, transaction schedule, transaction recovery, local agent, etc. Because of the heterogeneity , distribution and autonomy of multidatabase systems, transaction processing in multidatabase systems is very different compared to conventional transaction processing. A multidatabase transaction processing prototype - MDBT_1 was developed, in which a global transaction manager and local agents based on two-phase commit agent(2PCA) model were implemented.
